Solvang to reopen Copenhagen Drive after two year closure
SOLVANG, Calif. - The City of Solvang is developing a plan to reopen Copenhagen Drive for the first time since its closure in 2020.
"The City Council at the last City Council meeting had directed us to come up with a plan to reopen Copenhagen. The closure was temporary in nature and there is a desire to reopen it" said city manager, Xenia Bradford.
Some people in the community like the Copenhagen closure the way it is.
“I’m very disappointed that they decided to do that because I think this has been a blessing to the destination. Solvang has always been a destination but this really makes it special” said visitor, Charlie Silverman.
“We’ve been coming to Solvang for 8 years now and this is one of the best experiences we’ve had. It will be a shame if it goes away" said visitor, Tray Lindely.
“It’s very personable, it’s very European. We live in a beautiful area to be outdoors. The only downside would be the parking but that could be worked out down the road too” said Lucinda Williams at Toccata Tasting Room.
Reopening Copenhagen Drive would add approximately 60 more parking spaces.
There is still potential for a European-style plaza in Solvang.
“There’s still potential that we’ll discuss a larger, bigger project that might lead to European type of plaza somewhere in Solvang" said Xenia Bradford.
