Help Identify A Santa Maria Jaywalking Turtle

The Santa Maria Police Department is asking for your help to identify the owner of a jay-walking turtle.

Officer R. Carrasco nearly collided with the four-legged creature on the 1100 block of East Donovan Road during a patrol.

“I have never witnessed a turtle run out in front of a vehicle quite like this before,” Carrasco said. “The turtle was probably being chased by the Easter Bunny based on how fast today’s events unfolded.”

Carrasco was able to safely stop his vehicle and approach the turtle as it was about to barricade itself into dense shrubbery. Carrasco detained the turtle after some successful communication.

“When my Taser bounced off its shell I knew this was not your typical turtle,” Carrasco added.

If anyone has information or would like an interview, please contact Officer Carrasco of the Santa Maria Police Department at 805-928-3781 ext. 277.
