Chenault, Davis Honored at Round Table

It may be Spring Break this week at several Central Coast high schools, but on Monday it was a packed house at Giavanni’s Pizza and Pasta in Orcutt. There on hand for the Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table were representatives from softball, track and field, golf and volleyball.

The Female Athlete of the Week award was given to Katie Chenault of Allan College College. The softball superstar from Righetti continued her dream season with a dominating performance over 6 games, which included a forfeit win over Cuesta. Chenault helped lead the Bulldogs to six victories, which extended the team’s winning streak to 22 games. The sophomore, who leads the state in wins and strikeouts, struck out an amazing 71 batters in five games, plus threw a no-hitter versus Cuesta. She also hit three home runs and racked up 9 RBI. For the season, she has 20 wins and an incredible 263 strikeouts, which is 65 more than the pitcher with the second-most total in the state.

Kameron Davis of Lompoc track and field was honored with the Male Athlete of the Week award. The sophomore was a standout in a varsity meet with Templeton, winning the high jump, long jump, triple jump and 300 hurdles. He later won the frosh/soph triple jump at the Easter Relays at Santa Barbara City College.

The award was the first ever for Davis and the second this year for Chenault. Chenault has previously won the award several times during her career at Hancock and Righetti High School.

The Round Table will be off next week on Monday, April 6 in recognition of Spring Break and will resume on Monday, April 13.
