Oxnard Spa Killer Sentenced to Life in Prison
An Oxnard man involved in the killing of a spa owner in Oxnard has been sentenced.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that 22-year-old Miguel Martinez of Oxnard was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on the charge of first-degree murder. Investigators said Martinez was the getaway driver in the crimes committed in 2010.
A second man, Gabriel Lopez, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for his role in the 2010 A-1 Spa murder.
Back in January, the District Attorney said 30-year-old Oxnard resident Jose Guzman Ochoa was sentenced to life in prison without parole, and an additional 97 years 4 months to life in prison for the February 19, 2010 murder of A-1 Spa owner Sun Cha-Kays, and February 17, 2010 robbery and sexual assault at Tokyo Spa in Oxnard.
NewsChannel 3 spoke with the owner of Tokyo Spa soon after the crimes took place, and told us that Ochoa was a regular customer there. At the time, police had no suspect in the murder of Cha-Kays who was fatally shot in the head. Investigators were able to link Ochoa to that murder.
On November 3, 2014, a jury found Ochoa guilty of nine felony counts, including first-degree murder with burglary and robbery special circumstances, forcible oral copulation, robbery and false imprisonment.
