Jazz Band Holds Fundraiser for Family of Santa Ynez Teen Struck by Car

A last minute fundraiser was held at Solvang Park in memory of the Santa Ynez teenager who was struck and killed by a minivan on Thursday night.

15-year-old Carina Velazquez was killed a day before her 16th birthday while walking on a marked crosswalk in front of Santa Ynez High School.

Santa Ynez Valley Jazz Band Director Kay Baldwin quickly organized Sunday’s concert to raise money for the Velazquez family.

Carina’s younger brother, Joseph Velazquez played his saxophone with the band to help with the fundraising efforts as friends and family helped collect donations.

An online fund has been set up for the Velazquez family here.
