Ukraine crisis updates: What to know amid the fears of war

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — High-stakes diplomacy continues to try to avert a war in Eastern Europe. The urgent efforts come as 100,000 Russian troops are massed near Ukraine’s border and the Biden administration worries that Russian President Vladimir Putin will mount some sort of invasion in the next several weeks. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the buildup of Russian forces has reached the point where Putin now has a complete range of military options, including actions short of a full-scale invasion. In Moscow, the Kremlin said Putin told French President Emmanuel Macron that the West has failed to take Russian security concerns into account, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia doesn’t want war but sees no room for compromise.
