Students Remember Slain Students During Relay For Life

One week after the murders of six UCSB students, classmates showed their resilience in a variety of ways.

Organizers of the 11th annual Relay For Life at the UCSB track chose not to cancel the ceremony, but they did change it. They held a private lumineria ceremony with candles in colored paper bags honoring the fallen students. They decided not to walk all night long. They raised $10,000 for cancer research.

Film studies students channeled their feelings into a short film called IV Strong, shared on Vimeo. Josh Smith directed and edited the film that has an original score by Andrew Manos.

The film used time lapse photography during the memorial in Harder Stadium and video in the water during a paddle out memorial in the ocean near UCSB.
