Longtime Jazz Band Celebrates with Anniversary Show in Santa Barbara
This weekend they will hold an anniversary party as one of the longest running bands in the same location in Santa Barbara.
The music easily makes you think of the 20’s and 30’s, a scene from an old time movie, or simply makes you want to tap your feet and jump up for a dance.
At times guests, create a makeshift dance floor, and some go outside on the sidewalk and showcase some moves.
Banjo player Alex Marshall, a founding member, says, “well this is the only place in Southern California where the great American roots music can be heard every week.”
He is joined by a brass section, keyboardist, drums and at times a solo singer.
The group played their first gig in 1998 and since then the crowds of all ages have made it part of their Saturday night outings to downtown.
The James Joyce is located at 513 State St. Owner Tommy Byrne says admission to the show Saturday night starting at 7:30 pm is free.
