Storage-Unit Burglaries Rise in Ventura
Storage-unit burglaries are on the rise in some cities.
Ventura police issued a crime alert about the increase Thursday.
Officers said they have had 73 storage-unit break-ins this year, up 18 percent from last year.
A majority of burglars gained entry by cutting locks.
Officers recommend checking on your property to make sure it’s all there.
Police should have an inventory of everything that’s valuable.
They also suggest renting from companies with on-site security and video surveillance. Insurance is also available for items held in storage.
Police in Oxnard said there were two break-ins at storage units in the last month.
But Oxnard has not seen an increase from last year.
If people see something suspicious, they are urged to report it to police.
