Brush fire contained near Vandenberg Air Force Base

A vegetation fire broke out at 2:12 p.m. on Wednesday near the Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Santa Barbara County Fire spokesperson David Sadecki said the fire was contained at 3:43 p.m.

The fire burned 8-10 acres of light grass and there were live downed power lines in the area.

The fire was seen along Highway 1 and East San Antonio Road.

Vandenberg officials said no structures were threatened or damaged.

Officials asked for base personnel to avoid the the area due to safety considerations.

California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for an hour, starting at 3:22 p.m. closing one of the southbound lanes of Highway 1.

Santa Barbara County Fire and Los Padres Fire are on scene mopping up.
