Ventura City Planners say affordable housing plan needs rezoning

The west side of Ventura could be home to a new affordable housing project, but first, city planners must approve a zoning change.

The change would increase the number of apartments allowed at the site off Ventura Avenue.

The developer’s plan calls for tearing down the old Westview Village and building a new one.

The project would include 120 units.

Senior City Planner Iain Holt said the first phase would include 50 apartments.

Holt said developers are eligible for Federal affordable housing tax breaks and grants

If the plans are approved, construction could start next year.

Residents are welcome to attend a joint meeting with the design review committee and the planning commission at Ventura City Hall, Wednesday at 6p.m.
