Lane blocked on HWY 101 near Goleta after rollover crash injures four
GOLETA, Calif. - One lane of the 101 freeway was blocked Thursday afternoon following a rollover crash that occurred near the outskirts of Goleta.
The crash was reported to California Highway Patrol around 4 p.m. on the southbound side near Dos Pueblos Canyon Road in the Naples area.
Officers said a 2002 Ford Explorer had been driving south at 65 miles per hour when the left rear tire blew out.
The driver, a 36-year-old man, reportedly applied the brakes but lost control of the car. The Ford ultimately went into the center divider where it rolled over.
CHP said a total of six people were inside the care at the time of the crash. Four were transported to Cottage Hospital with moderate to major injuries. Officers said one of the injured passengers had been sitting in the right rear of the car and was not wearing a seatbelt. That person was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over and temporarily trapped underneath.
Officers said the driver of the vehicle was not transported to the hospital.
The number one lane of the freeway was blocked around 4:15 p.m. so firefighters could safely respond to the crash. It is expected to remain blocked for about 30 minutes.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. CHP said they do not yet know if drugs and/or alcohol were involved.
