SLO County acquires nude beach
San Luis Obispo County’s only nude beach now belongs to the county and officials tell us they have big plans for the area.
With the acquisition of Pirates Cove, the county expects to spend about $1.4 million on improvements to the area. And you may be wondering: will it still be clothing-optional? The answer: yes.
In the next year, the county will be working on getting permits so they can start improvement projects in the area. The county’s plans include building a new parking lot, bathrooms and a trail that will connect Pirates Cove to Shell Beach.
Not only is Pirates Cove known for it’s clothing optional beach, it also has sea caves and a lot of historical value. “This is a gem in our county. It’s a beautiful location. The county’s goal is to preserve this as a public space,” said Shawn Cooper with the San Luis Obispo County Parks Department.
Once the park work is complete, it’s expected to cost a little more than $40,000 dollars a year to maintain the park.
