Taggers Tag Trestle

It didn’t take long for taggers to leave their mark on a newly painted bridge over the 101 freeway in Ventura. The train trestle just had a $90,000 makeover that included cameras, safety barriers and paint.Union Pacific Railroad paid Caltrans to do the work.Union Pacific also chose the silver paint that was supposed to be graffiti resistant.Ventura City Manager Rick Cole says it may be resistant to markers but not spray paint. The City is responsible for touch-ups but a train safety worker must be on hand to handle train traffic.Cole says a company called Clark Engineering has offered to paint over graffiti for free for the next year. They painted over the tagging early Wednesday morning. And police say they are following leads thanks to surveillance video that shows two young taggers on the bridge early Tuesday morning. If the taggers are caught they will face felony charges and fines. If they are juveniles their parents will have to pay the fines.
