New animal resource centers open in Lompoc, Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Two new pet resource centers at the Santa Barbara County animal shelters in Lompoc and Santa Barbara opened Wednesday.

They are part of a partnership between C.A.R.E.4Paws and Santa Barbara County Animal Services. They're working with seven local nonprofits on the resource centers.

Pet food and other supplies, as well as veterinary care is available at the new centers.

"No pet owner should ever have to make the tough decision between paying a bill and buying pet food or providing medical treatment for a four-legged family member. But the pandemic has made it hard for a growing number of community members to care for their pets, leaving animals at greater risk of being relinquished to a shelter," a representative for the county said in a news release.

C.A.R.E.4Paws and Santa Barbara County Animal Services worked together last January to open a resource center in Santa Maria.

People in need of assistance can visit the Pet Resource Centers during opening hours.

The mayors of Lompoc and Goleta were in attendance and cut the ribbons at the site of each respective center.
