Arroyo Grande sanctuary for abused, neglected farm animals opens public tours
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary in Arroyo Grande opened its doors to the public on Saturday to allow community members to meet rescued farm animals.
"We are excited to share our animals' stories of triumph, forgiveness and our message of kindness to our visitors," said Diane Dieterich, founder of Greener Pastures.
The nonprofit farm sanctuary spans five acres of land and works to shelter abused and neglected farm animals.
"At our shelter, rescued residents are given the care and attention they need to recover from abusive situations. All of the animals enjoy healthy food, clean shelter, and lots of room to roam every single day," said the farm on their website.
Self-guided tours at the farm are open from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. during the first Saturday of each month starting May 1.
Dieterich said 50 people made it out to meet their 37 rescued animals during that first day.
"We are excited to share these amazing animals with the community to show that their lives matter and how important kindness is. People make a connection with an animal and experience firsthand the unconditional acceptance and healing that animals give naturally," Dieterich said.
A volunteer was stationed with each group of animals to share their story of recovery and answer any questions.
Animals you will have the chance to meet at the farm include miniature horses, goats, a lamb, pigs, miniature donkeys, turkeys, ducks, chickens and peafowl.
Guests were also allowed to interact with the animals by brushing donkeys and goats as well as buying treats.
