Ventura County receives COVID-19 vaccine freezers

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - Ventura County has received new freezer units that will be used to store the new COVID-19 vaccines.

The freezers traveled from Pennsylvania to store the Pfizer vaccine in Ventura County.

The vaccines require storage at -70 degrees Celsius, which is -94 degrees Fahrenheit. The freezers are capable of reaching -80 Celsius or -112 Fahrenheit, if needed.

“Several weeks ago we placed an order for these high capacity special freezers, and last week we received two of the four, and we expect the other two by the end of the month. I think we were among the first in line compared to other local health departments," said Rigo Vargas Ventura County Public Health Department Director.

Vargas said other departments within Ventura County also placed addition orders for the freezers and the county epacts to have additional capacity.
