Parks can stay open in California as state revises stay-home order
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The State of California is reversing course on part of the newly-issued Stay-At-Home order, which should make lives easier for some kids and their parents.
Outdoor playgrounds can stay open.
Playgrounds were originally forced to close under the new regional stay-at-home order.
Some parents and state lawmakers argued children need fresh air and exercise for their emotional and physical health.
Playgrounds were closed throughout the majority of the state during the early weeks of the statewide stay-at-home order issued in the spring. Parks were reopened in waves and have been mostly open since September.
Outdoor playgrounds are now being classified as an essential outdoor activity.
The stay-at-home order says the following regarding outdoor facilities.
To promote and protect the physical and mental well-being of people in California, outdoor recreation facilities may continue to operate. Those facilities may not sell food or drink for on-site consumption. Overnight stays at campgrounds are not permitted.
Parents are still advised to make sure children wear face coverings while playing, avoid the park if unable to maintain safe physical distancing, limit visits to about 30 minutes, and, as always, practice safe hygiene and wash hands regularly.
