SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department reported one additional coronavirus-related death on Monday.

The person was between the ages of 30 and 49.

The public health department said this person was a resident of Santa Maria who had underlying health conditions.

Although most cases of COVID-19 are considered mild to moderate, the disease can be particularly serious for those who are considered vulnerable due to age or pre-existing health conditions.

The county records a death as being coronavirus-related when a death certificate is processed that lists COVID-19 as the cause of death or a significant contributing factor. The process can take days to weeks to verify, the county said.

Santa Barbara County reported 46 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the county's total to 8,143 cases. For a complete breakdown of cases in the county, click here.
