Mission Hope Cancer Center patients receive fresh produce from Babé Farms
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - While many things are stopping during the COVID-19 pandemic, cancer is not one of them.
Many cancer patients, whose immune systems are already compromised from treatments, are struggling to find safe ways to get fresh fruits and vegetables without putting themselves at risk.
Fortunately, Babé Farms stepped up to help.
The farm, working in partnership with Fresh Bounty and Gold Coast Packing, donated more than 100 boxes of freshly picked produce to patients at the Mission Hope Cancer Center in Santa Maria on April 27.
Babé Farms is a family-owned nonprofit known for its wide array of colorful specialty lettuce, root vegetables and salad blends.
“As longtime members of this community, we have seen firsthand the amazing impact that Dignity Health and Mission Hope have had on Santa Maria and California as a whole,” said Judy Lundberg-Wafer, owner of Babé Farms. “We were honored to support the medical community that has always been there for us, our friends, and our neighbors.”
Dignity Health said the contribution of Babé Farms to the betterment of patients is greatly appreciated by many in Santa Maria.
