SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Humane Society and Santa Maria Valley Humane Society are asking the community to participate in the #GivingTuesdayNow event on Tuesday, May 5.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global event mirrored after the annual #GivingTuesday campaign that will be held on December 1 this year.

The #GivingTuesdayNow effort seeks to provide the global community an opportunity to unite around the power of generosity in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Although we are being asked as members of the world community to stay at home and social distance, the work of nonprofits helping the most vulnerable must continue,” said Sofia Rodriguez, Vice President of Philanthropy & Engagement for the Santa Barbara Humane Society and the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society. “And our community’s animals in need are not exempt.”

On Tuesday, the social media sites for both North and South campuses will feature stories, photos and videos demonstrating donation dollars at work.

By giving the public an inside look at their operations, the humane society team said they hope to inspire people to give thanks to those supporting animal welfare efforts, spread the word and donate themselves if possible.

The funds will be used to support animal welfare services throughout the Santa Barbara County.

To get involved, follow the social media sites, including Instagram @sbsmvhumanesociety and on Facebook @SantaMariaValleyHumane or @SantaBarbaraHumaneSociety.
