City of Santa Maria to celebrate completion of $900,000 road project
The City of Santa Maria will celebrate the completion of traffic improvements in the Enos Ranch area.
Crews have spent the last few months working on the Betteravia and Highway 101 interchange.
“It's almost like the main street you know, and it's just great for the city,” said Juan Valenzuela, who drives through the intersection every day.
After several months of construction, the $900,000 project is finally finished.
“We're really pleased that this project is done. It's helping thousands of drivers every single day. This is one of the busiest intersections in Santa Maria. About 40,000 cars use this every day,” said spokesperson Mark van de Kamp of the City of Santa Maria.
City leaders said the project has dramatically reduced traffic congestion, minimized delays, and improved overall flow at the northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp.
“We want to make sure everything is perfect and safe before we opened it up. We've heard good feedback, so we're going take a little time to celebrate,” said van de Kamp.
The ceremony on Thursday will include city, county, state and federal representatives, the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, Caltrans and others.
While the project took a little longer than expected, van de Kamp said it was well worth the wait given how busy the intersection gets on a daily basis.
