SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The City of Santa Barbara Public Safety Departments, Police and Fire, were notified of a public safety professional who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday afternoon.

The public safety professional was a Santa Barbara Police Officer.

The Officer last worked on March 12.

The Officer is currently under quarantine and is recovering out-of-county at their personal residence.

The Public Safety Department began mitigation efforts starting early March. By that time the Officer was already isolated at their home when they began to feel sick.

Both the Fire Department and Police Department are practicing extensive cleaning, social distancing and the use of personal protective equipment.

Two other Officers were tested for COVID-19, one officer tested negative. Another officer got tested as well and tested negative on Thursday evening.

Currently, officials say no Santa Barbara City Firefighters have been required to test at this point in time.

The City of Santa Barbara Police and Fire Department are both working with the County Public Health Department to provide up-to-date workplace safety standards.
