Some local wineries to close in light of coronavirus spread

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Gov. Gavin Newsom said Sunday that bars, nightclubs, wineries and brewpubs will be closed. Restaurant capacities must also be reduced by half.

Some local wineries including Presquile and Lumen Wines are planning to close due to the coronavirus spread.

"We've done that. The big concern is that people need their wine during this troubling time so we’re trying to figure out how best to serve the customer," said owner Will Henry with Lumen Wines adn Pico Restaurant.

Henry is arranging for bottle pick-up as well as delivery.

But now he’s concerned about his employees being out of work.

"We have decided to give all of our proceeds to our employees throughout the Coronavirus crisis," Henry said.

Co-owner Kali Kopley said they are doing everything they can to help keep their employees safe.

Pico Restaurant is currently open to the public.

Both Kopley and Henry are limiting how many employees they will have working on the floor.

"It's worrisome for sure. How do you keep the doors open and how do you keep people future and most important, how do we stay safe?

But with Saint Patrick's Day just one day away, not everything will be closed.

"We plan to be open for the public so that they can have an outlet to get out the house once in a while and to have something to do and hopefully spend a positive thing in their life by having a place to go," said James Allen with Elmer's Bar.

While Elmer's managers are taking precautionary measures, they are hoping people will enjoy to have a place to visit for this holiday.

Open or closed, everyone seems to share the same hope that this will come to pass sooner than later.
