Congressman Carbajal invites local Planned Parenthood CEO to State of the Union
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Rep. Salud Carbajal chose Planned Parenthood California Central Coast President and CEO Dr. Jenna Tosh as his invited guest to the annual State of the Union.
He said Tosh has been on the forefront of advocating for health care.
“As the president continues to ramp up attacks on health care and reproductive health access, I could think of no better guest than Dr. Tosh—a health champion in our community and a strong voice for justice.”
Carbajal said he was honored to have her join him.
Tosh applauded his efforts in return.
“I’m proud to attend the State of the Union with my Congressman, Salud Carbajal, because reproductive health care is health care, and health care is a human right,” said Tosh.
She listened for the President to talk about abortion and he did.
"The President talked about late term abortion which is not a medical term but a political one. The reality is that abortion later in pregnancy is extremely rare it happens in cases that are tragic, most commonly it happens when families have very wanted pregnancies and something goes tragically wrong."
Rep. Carbajal called the address divisive.
"Unfortunatly this was a very partisan, red meat, political speech by this president, it was more of a political speech than really outlining where we can come together as a country, He again lied and distorted things and really engaged in fear-mongering, vilifying immigrants and doing all that he does to again divide us as a country."
Tosh and Carbajal know reproductive rights are a controversial election year issue.
She said PPCCC will work to implement reproductive rights programs, expand sexual health services and incorporate gender-affirming care.
