City of Santa Maria gets feedback on downtown revitalization at public meeting

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The city of Santa Maria held a meeting on the downtown revitalization project.

The meeting was to discuss ideas about revitalizing the downtown area. 

It was also a chance to get feedback from the downtown revitalization committee about possible ideas to explore. 

Developers have not yet submitted applications.

But Staff went over a concept proposal to build a mixed-use development on city-owned property. 

The property is in the area of the west side of Broadway between Main Street and Cook Street at Town Center West.

The project would consist of several buildings.

They would accommodate 120 apartments and 28,000 square feet of retail space. 

“The City of Santa Maria hasn’t adopted downtown’s specific plan. Over the next several years it’s a matter of what’s going to happen with these properties under that adopted plan I was trying to have conversations with the development community,” said Planning Manager Ryan Hostetter with the City of Santa Maria.

 Staff is recommending that the Downtown Committee review the project.

The next step is for the committee to  provide recommendations to the Planning Department.
