Santa Maria police investigate murder-suicide
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Sounds of gunfire brought police to a northwest side Santa Maria neighborhood Thursday afternoon, where officers discovered an apparent murder-suicide.
It happened near Creston Street and Railroad Avenue around 3 p.m.
Police found the bodies of a man and woman inside a home in the 800 block of West Creston.
Officers didn't say what led up to the incident, but said a gun was used and each of the victims had one gunshot wound.
Neighbors spoke with a KCOY 12 crew at the scene and said the two were nice and good people. One person said they had been neighbors with the two for 18 years.
"We're still not sure what happened or how it happened. We are on scene investigating," said Lieutenant Jesse Silva with the Santa Maria Police Department.
Santa Maria police said there was no threat to the public and the investigation was ongoing.
"There is no danger to neighbors. The crime scene is contained. The neighborhood is safe," said Silva.
A KCOY 12 crew at the scene found police had surrounded the home and blocked it off with crime scene tape.
