Ventura County Red Cross volunteers embark to Florida ahead of Hurricane Dorian

Two Red Cross Ventura County Chapter volunteers packed their bags and headed to Florida ahead of Hurricane Dorian on Friday.

Michael McGehee and Diana Swartz, two Red Cross volunteers, traveled to Jacksonville, Florida to help set up a Red Cross shelter in advance of Hurricane Dorian.

The hurricane is expected to hit Florida as early as Labor Day. It’s predicted to be a Category 4 storm by then.

The married couple have been Red Cross volunteers for two years and will likely celebrate their 8th anniversary in a hurricane shelter on September 10.

Both have assisted response and recovery efforts for fires in Ventura County and floods in Texas.

To help with efforts for Hurricane Dorian, you can text the word DORIAN to 90999 to make a $10 donation or visit the Red Cross website.
