Home spared from serious damage after fire on Santa Barbara’s Westside
An upstairs fire on the Santa Barbara Westside was stopped early before it could spread throughout the structure thanks to an alert neighbor who called 911.
Flames were spotted about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at 536 West Victoria Street, according to Battalion Chief Chris Mailes .
Multiple engines including a ladder truck were called to the scene from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
Firefighters saw light smoke coming from an upstairs window near the roof line and then flames in a bathroom.
The fire was stopped in that area. The fire’s damage was confined to the upstairs area, where the fire is believed to have sparked.
The cause is under investigation but a candle was reportedly used near a shower curtain.
Power to the building was cut off during the fire operation.
The streets around the corner house were blocked for more than an hour by fire trucks and crews at the scene.
No one was injured.
