Jedlicka’s Saddlery on De La Vina Street to close in April
Another end of an era for longtime locals, this time impacting an equestrian institution in Santa Barbara.
Many people were visibly saddened hearing the news that Jedlicka’s Saddlery is closing up shop on De La Vina and corralling its mascot horse-on-wheels for good.
This is the go-to store in town for western wear and gear: boots, hats, chaps, clothing and all sorts of knick-knacks for your home — or ranch.
Owner Josiah Jenkins said a growing lack of vendor support and changes in customer shopping trends forced his hand. Some of it, painful to experience.
“People come in here, try things on, then they’ll order it on their phone in front of you,” Jenkins said. “Or, go out the door, buy online then come back and want us to do the exchange.”
The family-owned and operated business first opened back in 1932.
There is some good news: owner Josiah Jenkins’ ride off into the sunset won’t be too far as Jedlicka’s Saddlery at 2883 Grand Avenue in Los Olivos is expected to remain open.
“Los Olivos — you got the visitor trade, the wine tasters or, I call ’em, ‘The Grape Juice Connoisseur’ or fermented grape juice,” Jenkins said. “We get weekend traffic up there and that town is very lively.”
