Former Atlantic City politician charged with election fraud involving absentee ballots

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A former Atlantic City councilman who went to prison for bribery and a sex blackmail case is facing charges again. Craig Callaway, a former city council president and sought-after political operative, was charged Thursday with election fraud involving the misuse of absentee ballots. Prosecutors say Callaway paid people to apply for mail-in ballots that were supposed to be given to voters, but were instead cast in the names of people who say they never voted in the 2022 general election. Callaway has long been known for an ability to solicit and collect absentee ballots in and around Atlantic City. His lawyer had no immediate comment.
