Ed Waage
Candidate for Mayor of Pismo Beach
Website: | www.waage.net |
Why are you running for office?: | I serve as Mayor and am running for re-election to finish some top priorities. I have a record of getting things done. We now have a family friendly downtown with a new pier and a new pier plaza. The Shell Beach Streetscape is almost complete and it includes a safe route to school. I supported critical funding to complete the Pismo Preserve. There is more to do. I am leading the effort to build a new fire station downtown which will mean a quicker response from our firefighters. During the last drought, we almost lost a couple of our water sources and I am leading the effort to recycle our water in a project called Central Coast Blue. We need more parking and we have plans for a new parking structure downtown. |
What makes you qualified for the job?: | I have served four years as Mayor and eight years on the Council. I also serve on several regional boards such as SLO Council of Governments where I am advocating for a third lane on Highway 101 in Shell Beach to relieve traffic congestion. I am an officer and board member of the County Fire Safe Council which has completed numerous firebreak and vegetation management projects throughout the county of our City to reduce the risk of wildfire. I have also been endorsed by CalFire firefighters for my leadership in fire safety. |
What are your two main priorities if you win?: | The new fire station is my top priority since it will provide much better service to our residents. The other is a parking structure downtown which is much needed. |
How will you interact with other governments?: | I already have an excellent relationship with County leaders and other Mayors. The City of Pismo Beach is partnering with Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande on a joint water recycling project which is an example of working together. |
What are your plans to help overcome COVID-19?: | We were the first city to enact a mask ordinance and we do enforce it. We need to continue working collaboratively with the County Health Officer to keep everyone safe. |
Which two issues are most important to you?: | Quality of Life and Safety are the two most important issues and they go together. My overarching goal is to make Pismo Beach livable, healthy and safe. |
