CHP investigating fatal accident on southbound 101 between Goleta, Gaviota

GOLETA, Calif. -- A driver has died after their vehicle rolled over during an accident on Highway 101 southbound between Goleta and Gaviota.

The single vehicle crash was reported around 7:40 a.m. near Arroyo Quemada Bridge.

A 2006 Ford Escape was traveling US 101 southbound in the #1 lane when they veered off the roadway and overturned.

The California Highway Patrol says it appears the driver of the Ford was not wearing a seat belt. There were no other people in the car.

The vehicle came to rest in the center divider and impacted southbound traffic. At least one lane was blocked due to the accident.

CHP investigators say the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision is still under investigation at this time.

It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this collision.
