4.0 magnitude earthquake centered near Port Hueneme rattles some awake
PORT HUENEME, Calif.--
“The bed jiggled ever so slightly and I felt something under me,” said Christine Weber, who has lived by the Port Hueneme pier for three years.
She said she woke up to her room shaking.
“I thought oh no," said Weber. "Like, it is happening. This is the big one.”
It wasn’t the big one, but Ventura County did experience a small earthquake Thursday morning.
“At about 2:13 this morning the City of Port Hueneme as well as the County of Ventura experienced a 4.0 earthquake," said Port Hueneme Police Chief Andrew Salinas. "The center was approximately 16 miles off the coast of Port Hueneme.”
While many people slept through the shaking, others woke up, including Port Hueneme Police Chief Andrew Salinas.
“I did in fact feel it at 2:13 this morning," said Salinas. "It woke me up, and I sat in bed and wonder if it will get any better. It slowly went away and I slowly went back to sleep.”
“It was over almost as quick as it started," said Weber. "I think maybe 20 seconds.”
Police say they did a full assessment and didn't find any damage after the earthquake.
There are no reports of damage or injury.
