State Route 1 shut down in front of Vandenberg Space Force Base for suspicious vehicle investigation

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – State Route 1 has been closed between California Boulevard and Timberlane Lane, directly in front of the main gate of Vandenberg Space Force Base, for a military-led investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

According to Vandenberg Space Force Base, security personnel responded to a suspicious vehicle near the Santa Maria Gate around 10:10 a.m. Friday morning.

One person has been detained for questioning added Vandenberg Space Force Base.

A military working dog team alongside members of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordinance Disposal team searched the involved vehicle and area, but no threats nor explosives have been detected noted Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The military installation shared that base operations will continue as normal as the investigation continues.

The California Highway Patrol-Buellton Office shared that Vandenberg Space Force Base requested the closure for a suspicious incident investigation and there was no provided time for the closure to end.
