Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders host free cheer camp for kids at Pacifica High School in Oxnard

OXNARD, Calif.-The Dallas Cowboys football players aren't the only ones holding training camps.

On Sunday, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders hosted a cheer camp for kids at Pacifica High School in Oxnard.

It is something they do on the first weekend of the team's football training camp.

This year Sophia Laufer, a former Simi Valley High School cheerleader, helped teach a routine.

She told the kids that one of her favorite parts of being a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader was performing with the friends she has made as a professional cheerleader.

Pacifica High School Triton cheerleaders also took part.

Aubree Carrisales said she enjoyed learning from cheerleaders who have made a career out of the sport.

"I think it is a really good opportunity for kids to come out and really express themselves," said PHS cheerleader Christina Ramirez.

The Cowboys have hosted 17 training camps in Oxnard to take advantage of its cooler climate, but this summer seems warmer than usual.

The professional cheerleaders made sure the young kids had water, and took breaks.

Their parents filled the stands and opened umbrellas to provide some shade.

The academy was free and filled up fast.

Every participant took home a cheer camp t-shirt.

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders don't stay for the rest of the football team's training camp, so this camp is a special event for the community.
