Pedestrian killed in traffic collision in Oxnard

OXNARD, Calif. - An elderly pedestrian was killed Friday morning in Oxnard after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road.

The Oxnard Police Department says the collision happened at 3:55 a.m. near the intersection of Ventura Road and Bay Boulevard. Traffic was closed in both direction on Ventura Road between Channel Island Boulevard and Bay Boulevard as officers investigated.

Police arrived on scene and learned that a 2018 Ford Mustang driven by a 20-year-old Oxnard man hit a 76-year-old pedestrian. The man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the Mustang left the scene but later returned as officers were investigating.

Investigators determined that the Mustang was traveling south on Ventura Road when it collided with the pedestrian who was walking in the crosswalk at Bay Boulevard.

Police say speed is not believed to be a factor but an investigation is ongoing to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7750. You can also report suspicious activity on the police department's website.
