EL RIO, Calif. - California Highway Patrol reported a car collided with a gas station sign near Vineyard Avenue and Simon Way Saturday afternoon.

The crash was called in to CHP and Oxnard police around 3 p.m.

The CHP website reports that a solo white Ford Explorer and driver crashed into the pole of a sign at the 76 gas station. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area due to lane closures on Vinyard Avenue and Simon Way while emergency personnel investigate the incident.

CHP originally reported this as a vehicle into a pedestrian, but have since corrected it to be a solo vehicle crash.

This is a developing story, we will update as more information becomes available.
