CAL FIRE extinguishes vehicle fire on Highway 101 in Arroyo Grande

CAL FIRE extinguished a vehicle fire on the northbound side of the U.S. 101 Sunday afternoon.

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - CAL FIRE and California Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle fire on Highway 101 around 1:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters located the black Honda sedan pulled over on the right-hand side of the northbound freeway about a mile-and-a-quarter north of Laetitia Vineyard & Winery.

CAL FIRE said that the driver, and only person inside the vehicle during the incident, had successfully removed themself from the car with no injuries.

CAL FIRE knocked down the vehicle's flames by about 1:45 p.m. and the fire was completely extinguished around 2:15 p.m.

During the fire, CHP did have both lanes of the Northbound 101 freeway temporarily closed around 1:30 p.m. One lane was reopened shortly after and both lanes were reopened at 2:10 p.m.

The cause of the vehicle fire is still under investigation.
