Body found near La Cumbre Plaza in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara Police responded to reports of a body found near the intersection of Calle Real and La Cumbre Road Sunday afternoon.

The body was first called in around 1:12 p.m. City firefighters and the County Coroner also responded to the scene.

Police determined the deceased man was homeless and said he was found near a homeless encampment.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of death, however, at this time it does not appear to be a homicide.

The man was identified as 50-year-old Craig Ast of Santa Barbara.
