One additional inmate tests positive for COVID-19 at Santa Barbara County Jail
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office announced that one more inmate received positive test results for COVID-19 Wednesday night.
The Sheriff's Office explained that the inmate was part of a group of 50 individuals who were previously tested for being in contact with another infected inmate.
The group was tested on Aug. 20 resulting in all negative results, however, they were retested on Aug. 25 and received one positive test.
This positive-testing inmate is currently asymptomatic and is being isolated and medically monitored at the County Jail.
At this time, the jail reportedly has had 42 total cases of COVID-19 among the inmate population. 12 of those cases are currently active while 23 inmates have recovered from the virus. Of those infected, six were released from custody back into the community and one has passed away.
