Dangerous winds topple trees on Santa Barbara south coast

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It's not just the heat that's causing problems for people in the Santa Barbara area. Strong winds have done their own damage.

Thursday night into Friday morning Santa Barbara County saw winds that toppled trees, scattered palm fronds, even damaged cars and homes. The Montecito hills seeing gusts topping 81 mph, according to the National Weather Service and First Alert Weather Center.

In those winds, the power was knocked out when power lines arched in Montecito. Roads were blocked by trees in Santa Barbara. One tree even hitting a Santa Barbara home on the east side of town. It's not clear how much damage it caused.

There have been no reports of injury.
