LEAD Academy kicks off in Goleta

GOLETA, Calif. - LEAD Academy kicked off Wednesday night in Goleta.

About 30 people attended the program. LEAD stands for learn, empower, advocate and discuss.

The free, six-week program gives people an opportunity to see how the city works from the inside.

The group includes retirees to business owners to high school students.

Classes are interactive and give participants a change to learn everything from how the city maintains roads to what it takes to create a city budget.

The academy's graduation is held on Feb. 12. Another LEAD Academy begins in the Fall.

For more information visit the city's website.
