Unconscious runner rescued near Upper Oso Campground

A runner was found unconscious in the 19 oaks trail area and was hoisted to safety by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a call about a medical emergency at 1:52 p.m. on Saturday in the 19 Oaks Trail area near Upper Oso Campground.

The Fire Department dispatched Engine 13, Helicopter 308 and Battalion 512 to the location.

Upon arrival, firemen found that a runner who had been participating in an endurance run in the area was unconscious on the trail.

The Fire Department said the runner was a male who looked to be in his mid-20's.

Copter 308 was used to lower Santa Barbara Fire Paramedics down to the patient where he was packaged and hoisted back up to the helicopter.

Santa Barbara County Fire posted a video of the patient being airlifted.

The patient was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further treatment. His current condition is unknown.
