Pismo Beach pier reopens after major renovation project
PISMO BEACH, Calif. -- The City of Pismo Beach invites residents to the opening of the newly remodeled Pismo Pier Plaza on Friday afternoon.
The newly remodeled Pier Plaza is now open to the public.
New features that were placed in include shade structures, bathrooms, ADA access to the beach, playground and slides down to the sand.
Pismo Beach Mayor Ed Waage took the first slide down on the reopening day.
This project was one of the major goals set by the city for the Fiscal Year of 2020 and 2021.
The new design has many new features including a full reconfiguration of the parking lot, new concrete pavers and planter areas, new site furnishings and artwork, new showers, bike and surfboard racks, seating areas, shade structures, a new beach access structure and a play area for children.
The City says the construction began on October 28, 2019.
The City Council awarded the construction contract to Vernon Edwards Constructors back on October 1, 2019.
The Pier also has three vintage Airstream trailers that will serve as the new food concession, the Visitor Information Kiosk and Sheldon’s Bait Shack. They have yet to open.
The City of Pismo Beach reminds visitors and residents to wear their face coverings and physically distant.
