AVILA BEACH, Calif. - Some popular beaches in and around Avila Beach will be closed due to overcrowding during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Port San Luis Harbor District will be restricting beach use at Avila Beach, Fisherman's Beach and Olde Port Beach.

The beaches will remain open but only for walking for short periods of time.

Social distancing will be enforced and people are not allowed to loiter on the beach or setup towels or chairs.

Social distancing will also be enforced, according to the Port San Luis Harbor District.

People are still encouraged to cut down on unnecessary travel and limit outdoor recreation.

The Harbor District says the decision to restrict beach use was made due to large crowds at the beach and crowded beach parking lots.
