Atascadero fire crews save man trapped in scissor lift after hitting power lines
ATASCADERO, Calif. - Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services responded to multiple 911 reports on Saturday of a man trapped in a scissor lift in a residential area.
Atascadero Fire said they arrived at the 580 block of North Ferrocarril Road around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday.
Two engines, a ladder truck and one command vehicle from Atascadero Fire arrived on the scene along with three Atascadero Police Units and one San Luis Ambulance.
The firemen found the man trapped about 45 feet in the air inside his scissor lift bucket.
Fire Services said the man had been trimming trees when he came into contact with the high voltage power lines.
Multiple people who had reported the incident said they heard a loud explosion and then the power went out.
The Fire Department used their ladder truck to get close to the patient to assess his injuries.
Fire crews manually lowered the scissor lift from the ground in order to clear the power lines. They then safely transferred the patient onto their ladder truck platform.
Fire Services said the patient had multiple severe burns, but was conscious and able to follow commands.
The patient was then transported by ambulance to Sierra Vista Hospital's Trauma Center for further treatment.
It took fire crews about one hour to rescue the man from the scissor lift.
