PASO ROBLES, Calif. -- California Highway Patrol officers arrested a woman after she drove the wrong way on Highway 101 and then resisted arrest.

Police arrested Jennifer Martin, 37, for assault and battery of a peace officer.

CHP officers responded to a report of a wrong-way driver on Tuesday morning around 4:08 a.m.

Witnesses reported that the driver got on and drove northbound in the southbound lanes on Highway 101 from Highway 46 West near the Target Shopping Center.

Shortly after, the driver crashed into the perimeter fence on the west side of southbound Highway 101.

Officers arrived on scene and witnesses told them a woman jumped from the car and ran away on the median.

Officers instructed witnesses to stand by as they chased after the woman and caught her a short distance away.

After getting caught by officers, Martin immediately attacked the CHP officers.

Martin punched, kicked and bit the officers and continued with her attack until officers were able to take her into custody.

Martin was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

After she was cleared by the hospital, CHP officers transported her to the San Luis Obispo County Main Jail for booking.
