Lompoc to vote on Measure M public school bond in November
LOMPOC, Calif.- A $160 Million measure to repair Lompoc schools is up for a vote this November.
More than a hundred classrooms across 16 different schools are falling apart and are in need of repair according to the Lompoc Unified School District. Some of these campuses are over 60 years old and have not been updated in over 20 years.
Measure M would provide much needed improvements to aging roofs, new plumbing, electric works, and ventilation systems.
"It's going to create a very safe and comfortable and modern learning environment for our students," said Lompoc Unified School District Superintendent Clara Finneran.
If passed, Measure M would also help schools meet health, safety, and accessibility standards according to the district.
Finneran said funds from Measure M would allow the district to upgrade STEM labs within the district.
"When bond measures pass there is a renewed confidence in our students, in our community and our staff and students do better," said Finneran.
"This will definitely help with local students," said Karla Rodriguez, a Lompoc High School graduate.
