OCEANO, Calif. - Firefighters in San Luis Obispo County successfully contained a small fire that flared up near the Pier Avenue entrance to the Oceano Dunes.

The fire was first reported around 2:35 p.m. Saturday afternoon near the Oceano Dunes Beach Trail.

CAL FIRE, Five Cities Fire and California State Parks responded to the scene and reported the fire was about a half-acre in size with the potential to grow to only one or two acres. The fire had a moderate rate of spread.

With some quick work, firefighters were able to fully contain the burn at three-quarters of an acre by 3:21 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
